Monday

Today (Monday), we just got back from the Shanghai Museum, which included artifacts that were thousands of years old. They had beautiful paintings, bronze works, and ancient pottery, each which had incredible history of its own. Tonight, we are heading to an Indian restaurant in the French Quarter, which houses the most diverse set of restaurants in the city. At this point, we've been eating at restaurants for about 10 days- home-cooking will be a delight come Wednesday! We're going to enjoy the variety while it lasts!

Shanghai Weekend Continues

On Saturday night, we went to see the acrobat show, which was absolutely incredible! They had all kinds of acts, including the motorcycle student at the end, where up to 7 motorcyclists drove at high speeds in a large domed-shaped cage- it was amazing.

Sunday was a very relaxing day, as the students worked on their class projects in groups. Many also ventured out to do a bit of shopping, particularly at the pearl market! It's amazing to see how independent the students have become on this trip. They are really trying to take in as much as possible! Sunday night we went to a great Tapas Bar for dinner, a nice change from the food we've been eating all week.

Shanghai Weekend Continues

Shanghai Weekend

On Friday, we had two great business visits: one to Bizark, an up-and-coming e-commerce company led by Jason, a Kelley MBA graduate. The students really enjoyed the Q and A session, since the idea of e-commerce was new to many of them. Then, we went to Whirlpool, where the Vice President of Asian operations, a Kelley MBA graduate, spoke to the students specifically about brand management, and how the Whirlpool, as an international company, must market and create different products for different areas of the world. For example, in India, many households keep their washers and dryers in the bathroom, so the product must be more compact, although oftentimes much less efficient.

On Saturday, we visited the beautiful Yu Gardens and Bizarre, where students were able to explore the ancient Chinese architecture, all while crafting their bargaining skills in the marketplace. It's impressive how good the students have become at achieving an "optimal" price for their purchases- business students indeed! We also visited the Bund, which is a beautiful area along the Huangpu river, home to many of Shanghai's old architectural wonders.

Finally we ended the day with an amazing acrobat show. acts were incredible, and the students enjoyed cheering on the amazing individual acts. We are all looking forward to a bit quieter day tomorrow. After a week on the trip, sleep is definitely a must!

Until later...
